Mission

The Grant Avenue Community Center and Sacred Place, Inc. exists to empower a diverse population of individuals within the Denver area, to create and strengthen community through the alliance of arts, culture and spirituality.

Programs & Activities

Grant Avenue Community Center serves approximately 2,000 people each month. Current programs include the following building users:

  • Grant Avenue United Methodist Church Congregation (established in 1890)
  • Pathways Church (a young, dynamic, non-denominational Christian church consisting of about 800 members with an average age of 28)
  • Church Women United (an ecumenical Bible Study group for women
  • Colorado Honor Band (consisting of more than 500 middle school and high school students)
  • Colorado Wind Ensemble (a world-class orchestra)
  • Colorado Jazz Workshop (local adult jazz musicians)
  • Mile High Freedom Band (gay & lesbian adult musicians)
  • The "And Beyond Theatre Company" (an innovative theater group, which produces professional-level theatrical productions, and provides creative children's acting classes)
  • Arts for All (a dance school that provides a wide variety of dance classes for children and adults)
  • Wartburg College West (provides career and urban life educational programs for Iowa college students)
  • The Dance Community (provides regular activities for Down Syndrome and special-needs young adults)
  • Colorado Compassion Club (a support group of some 80 individuals who suffer from chronic pain an/or terminal illness)
  • Urban Children's Coalition (provides cooking and nutrition classes for low-income single mothers)
  • Bonfils Blood Center
  • Toys for Tots
  • Coats for the Homeless
  • Historic Denver
  • Colorado Preservation, Inc.
  • Various Community Meetings
  • Nonprofit Seminars and Workshops

The historic sanctuary is used throughout the year for weddings. Additionally, the banquet hall and the theater auditorium are used for receptions and other community events. And, Grant Avenue is part of the recently established "Grant Street Historic District."
